Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher of sociology, my pedagogical philosophy focuses on developing students’ sociological imagination and critical thinking skills, which in turn allows them to seriously engage their social world and their position in that world. My goal is to help students to develop an intellectual, enthusiastic, and critical understanding of the ways in which social, cultural, economic, and political conditions influence their lives as individuals at all the levels of structural complexity—for example, the macro, micro, and middle—that comprise society.
